Customer Spotlight: Kevin Walraven of Calhoun, GA

Kevin Walraven is a fourth-generation farmer from Calhoun, Georgia, where his family’s roots in agriculture run deep. What began generations ago with hogs eventually shifted into cattle, and today Kevin continues the tradition—balancing a full-time job with the “farm fun” that keeps his heritage alive.

His farmland also carries historic ties to Young Harris College, which once owned the property for its orchards and farming. That legacy of education and agriculture continues to inspire Kevin’s work today, both on his land and through his leadership in Georgia’s farming community.

Leading Georgia’s Young Farmers

Kevin currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Georgia Young Farmers Association and proudly held the role of President in 2024. This statewide program is one of the most impactful of its kind, providing opportunities that go far beyond crops and cattle. From leadership training to community projects, it equips students and local growers alike with skills that strengthen Georgia agriculture for the future.

Kevin has been part of the organization since 2013, helping shape the next generation of agricultural leaders. As he often says, “If you’re not growing, you’re going backwards.”

Farming in Georgia Today

For Kevin, farming in Georgia has never been more diverse. From cattle operations to flower beds to community gardens, agriculture here reflects both tradition and innovation. He admires institutions like Berry College, which have long connected farming education to local communities, and he continues that legacy through his own leadership and work on the land.

The Right Equipment for the Job

On his farm, Kevin relies on a Massey Ferguson 4710 (100 HP) paired with a 15-foot Batwing Rhino cutter. Alongside it, he uses a Vermeer baler for hay production—a critical piece of equipment that helps him keep operations running smoothly season after season.

When asked why he chooses Jasper Tractor, Kevin points to one thing above all else: service. From the very beginning, he built a friendship with owner Zach Cagle, and he credits the entire Jasper Tractor team with keeping him going no matter the challenge.

Kevin recalls moments when equipment issues hit during the busiest parts of the year—even on holidays—and the Jasper crew made sure he was back in the field. “It’s the service team that keeps me coming back. They fight for you, and they make it right every time.”
